Neon Grid build 0.7.3

Survival Doctrine [06] · /docs/classes.txt

Classes in Neon Grid are not jobs. They are procedures for surviving contact with pressure. A Soldier controls the lane. A Hexer teaches systems to fail. A Medic keeps witnesses breathing. A Warden makes the room part of the argument. Pick the method your character trusts when the Grid stops listening politely.

Seventeen doctrines, five families. Some are sanctioned, some are tolerated, and some only stay legal while nobody important is embarrassed. Each doctrine is a story about how your character handles fear, leverage, harm, and responsibility.

Soldier

lane control // combat · frontline

Soldiers make violence practical: weapon identity, positioning, covering fire, and pressure applied without romance. They decide where the fight happens and make the room pay for disagreeing.

Some learned through guild drill, militia work, pits, courier guard shifts, or gangs. Good Soldiers can be honorable, predatory, traumatized, or paid; all understand distance and consequences.

Justiciar

verdict bearer // combat · sanctioned

Justiciars carry law as a weapon when law itself is broken, bought, or missing. They name offenses, bind targets with judgment, and deliver punishment with ritual precision.

They can be corporate warrior-monks, debt executioners, vigilantes, failed idealists, or monsters with paperwork. Their central question is legitimacy: who gave you the right, and what happens when you are wrong?

Blackguard

forbidden chassis // combat · unsanctioned

Blackguards are banned war logic in a walking chassis: harvest routines, illegal plating, hostile code, and weapons that remember synthetic prey. They are strongest when the fight becomes industrial.

Every victory leaves a question inside the frame. A Blackguard can be escaped weapon, penitent monster, mercenary relic, or hunter convinced machines only become honest when dismantled.

Sentinel

mandate frame // combat · regulated

Sentinels are abandoned enforcement frames built from pursuit logic, riot firmware, and emergency mandate architecture. They hold lines because the old command voice still knows how.

Some remember being human, some do not, and some are not sure the distinction survived service. Sentinel stories ask what happens when authority outlives legitimacy.

Hexer

curse logic // code · rogue

Hexers weaponize corruption, recursion, malware, curse logic, and hostile pattern theology. They do not simply hack the Grid; they speak to it like a haunted machine and prove it listens.

They come from black terminals, signal cults, failed universities, old hacker families, and illegal firmware chapels. Their power feels technical until it starts sounding devotional.

Modder

body editor // code · gray-zone

Modders edit bodies under pressure: reinforce, strip, overclock, patch, sabotage, and misalign anything with a nervous system or port. The battlefield is a workbench.

Where Medics heal and Hexers corrupt, Modders revise. Their stories suit kind mechanics, reckless upgraders, black-market surgeons, and anyone who cannot stop improving people who never asked.

Chemjacks read every body as a reaction waiting for the correct trigger. They dose nerves, pressure coolant, audit exposure, and turn chemistry into tempo.

Redline labs, sewer stills, corporate trials, street drug rooms: any of them can teach the doctrine. Chemjack stories live in addiction, control, risk, and the ethics of survival by formula.

Architect

pattern summoner // code · unstable

Architects impose design on broken reality through hardlight, pattern summons, captured routines, and lattice logic. Their constructs can defend, harry, curse, or buy a second of room control.

They are builders first and combatants second, but the city has learned to fear good design. Every pattern goes home eventually; the dangerous ones start asking why.

Medic

field preservation // biotech · sanctioned

Medics are trauma workers in a city where healing creates debt, loyalty, leverage, or witnesses. Every saved life changes who can still testify, fight, love, or owe.

They stabilize, shield, restore, and keep bodies arguing with death long enough for choices. Redline hates them because their care does not always come with an invoice.

Naturalist

old-growth biotech // biotech · sympathetic

Naturalists keep old biology, toxic ecology, garden rites, relic samples, and patient growth alive under concrete. Nature here is not gentle; it is medicinal, hungry, and old enough to hold a grudge.

They come from sewer gardens, wasteland holdouts, greenhouse communes, and biomes that outlived their owners. Their question is what must be preserved, and what deserves compost.

Necrotech

death-system engineer // biotech · forbidden

Necrotechs work where corpse logic, memory, machine failure, reanimation, and emergency recovery overlap. They study what remains useful after a system dies and teach it to move.

They can be mourners, ghoulish scientists, caretakers, or grief taken too far. The doctrine asks whether using the dead dishonors them, saves them, or proves the living were never separate from machinery.

Morphs are unstable shapeshifters: genome panic, inherited forms, contaminated survival memory, and flesh that refuses one authorized shape.

Some begin ordinary until the first change proves otherwise; others come from labs, toxic zones, or bioweapon lines. Morph stories are body horror, freedom, hunger, shame, and identity as a verb.

Wardens read rooms as law: routes, hazards, chokepoints, water pressure, rooftops, alleys, and the social physics of who gets to stand where.

Former marshals, neighborhood defenders, transit officers, gang border-keepers, self-appointed custodians. Wardens protect places, but their danger is confusing protection with ownership.

Virtuosos are performers, morale hackers, rhythm duelists, and broadcast pressure specialists. They turn presence into a field condition before anyone admits the room is being played.

The room is instrument and audience; emotion is signal and signal is leverage. Virtuoso stories belong to stages, chapels, riots, clubs, and any crowd that needs to be moved.

Infiltrators treat buildings, bodies, networks, and social systems as locks. They use stealth, sensors, devices, venoms, and precision to make a fight unfair before it begins.

Spy programs, courier crews, burglary, corporate audit, survival: all roads teach the same lesson. Their stories ask what it means to know too much and whether any boundary was ever real.
